Meet the Codeminers Crew: Gil

The projects that we undertake here at Codeminers can be quite complex, so we need to ensure that the members of our team are up to the task. We cover all areas of website development, with everyone holding their own responsibilities and specialist set of skills. We want to help you get to know the team better… starting with our newest member, Gil.

Q. What’s your background in Web Development?

I started out in web development more years ago than I care to remember before opting to focus on back end database development, with Umbraco in particular as a focus. Working at Codeminers has offered me the opportunity to segue back into web development in order to avoid stagnating or over specialising too much, whilst maintaining my skills around databases.

Q. What advice would you give someone just starting out in the tech industry?

Find a subject matter that you both enjoy, and one that will challenge you as you progress throughout your career, and maybe even try a few that you’ve never even considered. I’ve been lucky enough to find work that I enjoy and is a challenge, it’s stopped me being bored and has forced me to push myself to learn new things.

Q. How did you get started with Codeminers?

I performed a one-off piece of database anonymization work which proved to be the proverbial foot in the door, expressed an interest in the broad range of technologies Codeminers use and the rest, to quote the cliche, is history.

Q. What has been your favourite project that you’ve worked on?

Working with Umbraco and Microservices in .Net Core has been my favourite experience thus far since the technology has been the furthest removed from my database background, it’s been a real challenge and helped me adapt and develop my skillset for upcoming projects.

Q. As our followers know, we love a good film quote. What is your favourite film, and why?

I’m an avid fan of all of Arnold Schwarzenegger films (from the 80s) as well as Top Gun so I have a few! See if you can guess the films:

  • Get to the chopper!
  • Get your ass to Mars
  • I feel the need, the need for speed

Q. What do you get up to in your spare time?

I’m a family man so spend most of my spare time organising road trips with my daughter; we’re teaching her to swim at the moment which is a challenge, but it’s really rewarding to see her confidence grow.

I love board games too and I’m killing all my free time playing Kingdom Death!

We’re excited to continue to introduce our growing team over the course of the next few months, so that you can get to know us all a little better, along with our dedicated skill sets. Watch this space for the next feature!
